Internal Blinds: More than meets the eye!

10 questions you should ask when engaging in a building designer

Blinds that never need cleaning or maintenance – sounds too good to be true, right? Not with internal blinds encapsulated between two panes of glass.

Internal Venetian blinds are a growing trend in Australia. But how do they work and why would you choose them over traditional timber or aluminium blinds? Traditional external blinds may start off looking good. But sure enough, dirty hands, excessive dust and excited pets can all take their toll on the look and functionality of your blinds. They are also difficult to maintain, with each separate slat needing to be wiped clean on its own. But what if your blinds could be securely inserted inside two panes of glass, keeping them safe from outside elements? Well, they can. Internal venetian blinds are encapsulated between two panes of glass within a double-glazed system. This means that you also get all the advantages of double glazing, which can help to reduce noise and insulate against heat or cold, while at the same time benefitting from sleek, contemporary blinds.

How does the system work?

The blinds move inside the windows using an internal cord winding system and can be operated manually or using a remote control. A magnetic slider, placed on the right or left-hand edge of the glass, allows the Venetian slats to be raised and/or tilted. The blind is raised and lowered by moving the slider up or down and is tilted by slightly lifting or lowering the same slider.

Why internal blinds?

Internal Venetian blinds are simple, versatile, and safe. By inserting the blinds within the two panes of glass of a double-glazed unit, the blinds function in a sleek and contemporary way, without compromising the insulating properties of the double glazing. Internal blinds won’t move when you open/close your windows and doors. The glass remains easy to clean. And, little hands and large pets won’t be able to pull on the blinds or damage any of the cords. By keeping the blinds within the glass panels, you ensure that dirt, dust, and weather conditions have zero effect – so that your blinds require virtually no maintenance!

The internal Venetian blind system can be applied to all types of window and door frames and are perfect for use in the home and in office premises as an easy way to provide privacy for boardroom meetings with a sleek and contemporary feel.
