dFENCE ePOD: Homegrown Innovation

10 questions you should ask when engaging in a building designer

Craig Harwood isn’t too keen on the word ‘entrepreneur’. He’s a businessperson, sure, but he comes from an extensive tactical policing background. Saving lives has always been a big part of who Craig is. Today, this local innovator runs a global company, dFENCE.

dFENCE was founded on the idea that everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes.

As for the business side of things, Craig believes in more than just profits. “It’s important to believe in your business and its role in the world totally – it has to add value beyond just financial returns,” he told us.

dFENCE’s latest and greatest invention (so far) is the  dFENCE ePOD. A portable, all-in-one home emergency kit. It’s sleek and compact enough to keep under the sink, or even take with you when you’re travelling. Above all, the ePOD is designed to be accessible when you need it. It also looks great, which doesn’t hurt.

The ePOD stocks all the important things: a first-aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a fire blanket and an LED torch. It also has a detachable mesh bag so you’re able to personalise the kit with things like EpiPens, inhalers or other medicines. You’ll also have access to a free app that includes tips on how to use each element in the pod.

Even as his company continues to grow with the success of the ePOD, Craig insists on a ‘do no harm’ approach to business, which means ethical manufacturing is a must: “Our core as a bran is based on these values.” The dFENCE team source all their products from accredited manufacturers, and when they can’t find a quality product that meets their standards, they make it themselves.

Like other Australian minds leading the world in invention and creativity, Craig knows just how much hard work and dedication it takes to bring an idea to life. “I think success comes from passion, persistence and a self-belief that what you are doing is, and will, make a difference.”

Thanks to dFENCE for supplying this article. dFENCE will be showcasing the ePOD at the Sydney HIA Home Show from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March, 2020. Come down to check them out and take advantage of their exclusive Home Show specials!
