{"id":5519,"date":"2017-09-12T14:46:26","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T04:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sydneyhomeshow.com.au\/?p=5519"},"modified":"2017-09-12T14:46:26","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T04:46:26","slug":"tips-deck-small-outdoor-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homeshows.com.au\/sydney\/blog\/tips-deck-small-outdoor-area","title":{"rendered":"Tips to deck out a small outdoor area"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>A WIDE, spacious backyard is not essential if you want to add a luxurious deck so you can enjoy the great outdoors at home.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Decking manufacturer Trex Company says a bit of creative thinking is all that is needed to make the most of your outdoor space, even if you have a terrace or small yard. &#8220;Trexperts&#8221; Paul Lafrance and Kate Campbell say there are a few tricks to remember to create the perfect pint-sized deck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PICK FAIRER SHADES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The tone of you deck can greatly either help or hinder the visual impact of a compact door area, Lafrance says.\u00a0<em>&#8220;Darker tones tend to make a space feel smaller whereas lighter colours have the opposite effect but helping to make your outdoor space feel brighter and more open.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>KEEP IT SIMPLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Avoid choosing intricate decking patterns, which can often feel overly busy.\u00a0<em>&#8220;Be very careful doing intricate decking patters, particularly if you&#8217;re going to be filling the space with furniture,&#8221; Campbell says. &#8220;We recommend straight patterns with a single border.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>LET THERE BE LIGHT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Minimal space does nor have to mean missing out on adding ambience.\u00a0<em>&#8220;A smaller space doesn&#8217;t mean a stark space. Subtly recessed deck lights can be installed flush on the decking boards to put the focus on the fixture&#8217;s effect instead of the source.
