Insurance and Care NSW

Icare HBCF (Home Building Compensation Fund) is the NSW Government’s insurance scheme that protects homeowners when residential building work over $20,000 goes wrong. We don’t regulate builders, or inspect building work, we are the financial safety net that pays out when something goes wrong on your project. If your builder or tradesperson becomes insolvent, dies, disappears, or has their licence suspended for failing to pay a court ordered debt to you, a HBCF Certificate of Insurance can compensate you for loss of deposit if the work never starts, for incomplete work, and for the cost of repairing major defects (up to 6 years) or non-major defects (up to 2 years). Come to our stand to find out what to check before you sign a contract, how to confirm your builder holds valid HBCF cover, and what to do if you’re worried about your build. Our team will walk you through exactly what you’re covered for and help you make sense of the fine print. Leave with a clear, practical understanding of how HBCF protects your investment before, during and after the build.
