LMI fees typically come with deposits under 20 per cent and can be thousands of dollars.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Fast Facts:\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The First Home Loan Deposit Scheme (FHLDS)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> has been up and running since 1 January 2020. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559991&quot;:239}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Under the scheme, Australians will be able to catch themselves a government-backed home loan with as little as a 5% deposit, and no requirement to pay lenders mortgage insurance (LMI).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559991&quot;:239}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The scheme will see 27 lende<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rs dole out mortgages to first home buyers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">First home buyers are required to have a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0least 5% of the value of an eligible property as a deposit, but no more than 20%.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559991&quot;:239}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Since starting the banks have registered 3,000 potential first home buyers under the FHLDS<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559991&quot;:239}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The remaining 7,000\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">opportunities\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for the current financial year will be available from 1 February 2020.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559991&quot;:239}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Another 10,000\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">opportunities\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will be available from July 2020.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:240,&quot;335559991&quot;:239}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The staged release of scheme\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">opportunities\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">provides first home buyers with the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">chance\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to gather the necessary financial information to support their application.
